Open Call: Submit to our Flat File Program
Flat File Program
Areté presents an opportunity for artists to participate in our Flat File Program. Artists may choose to submit works on paper, drawing, photographs, printmaking and collage; works submitted can be representative of the artist’s core practice or be a departure. Individual works from the Flat File Program will be accessible on our website and to gallery visitors for browsing during gallery hours and by appointment; they may be purchased online and in the gallery. The Flat File will also be on view during the heavily trafficked 2018 Greenpoint Open Studios weekend.
There is no fee to apply but those who are selected are required to appear in-person for a portfolio review at the gallery. While this program is open to artists who live outside NYC, we especially encourage local artists in the Brooklyn Greenpoint and surrounding neighborhoods to apply.
Artists may submit up to 8 images. Application is on a rolling basis, however, the artist must commit accepted artworks to at least one-year consignment period with Areté.
Open to professional working artists and to students.
All work for consideration must be unframed and unmounted.
Dimensions should be no larger than 24 x 36 in, with a maximum thickness of ¼ inch or less.
Maximum retail price of each work submitted should be less than $2000.
Each image should be no larger than 1000 pixels at the largest dimension and should not be over 1M each.
Files must be numbered and named following this naming convention: LastnameFirstname#.jpg, for example SmithJane1.jpg.
Optional but welcome to include artist statement, bio and curriculum vitae.
Please email email@example.com with the subject line “Flat File 2018 Open Call” and be sure to include your name and contact information.
We will reply to you as soon as we can, but please be patient and allow at least 4 weeks for a response. Please do not call or email Areté seeking the status of your submission.
